Additional information

SedationSedation Clinician Dr. Carlie Betts, BDS, Dip Con SedHere at Street Lane, we are very experienced at treating anxious and phobic dental patients. If you have always wanted that confident smile but are too afraid to have the work carried out, sedation may be for you. Or maybe it is a wisdom tooth that has been causing problems for years but you are too scared to have it taken out. We have many options ranging from acupuncture to sedation to make your visit as pain free as possible. What is sedation? The main type of sedation used at Street Lane is intravenous (IV) conscious sedation. A lot of dentists use terms such as "sleep dentistry" or "twilight sleep" when talking about IV sedation. This is confusing, because it suggests that IV sedation involves being put to sleep. In reality, you remain awake and conscious during the sedation. You will also be able to understand and respond to requests from your dentist. However, you may not remember much about what happened because of two factors: firstly, in most people, IV sedation induces a state of deep relaxation and a feeling of not being bothered by what's going on. Secondly, the drugs used for IV sedation can produce either partial or full memory loss (amnesia) for the period of time when the drug first kicks in until it wears off. As a result, time will appear to pass very quickly and you will not recall much, or perhaps even nothing at all, of what happened. So it may, indeed, appear as if you were "asleep" during the procedure.ImplantsImplants Clinician Dr. Rachel BarrettDental implants provide the latest innovation for missing teeth and offer a permanent solution. Speak to our experienced clinician who can advise and guide you through the implant process. Whether you are missing one tooth or several teeth dental implants are a permanent way to get new ones.EndodonticsDr David BlaenModern endodontic techniques mean that many teeth that were previously untreatable can now be saved. Success relies on sound biological and mechanical principles to clean, shape and fill the tooth root.David uses the dental operating microscope to carefully prepare a tooth for root filling."The use of the dental operating microscope, combined with the knowledge and techniques gained during my training now allow much better access and cleaning of the root canal system. For example, up to 90% of upper first molars have 4 canals and we can now identify, negotiate, clean and fill these areas. We are regularly finding and filling four or five canals in molar teeth. If these areas are left untreated they can cause reinfection and failure in the futute."Some people worry that root treatment will be painful. In fact it is usually pain free- it is not unknown for patients to fall asleep during treatment!
